Links to Additional Materials: The Figurative analogies link offers some short examples of how figurative analogies have been used to add emotional appeal. The More figurative analogies link provides examples of figurative analogies used in speeches. The Quotations link provides examples of how speakers could have, or already have, used others’ words to strengthen their speeches. Like to find some quotations for your speech? There are numerous online web sites featuring quotations. Here are two of the more user friendly quotation web sites I’ve found. They each organize quotations several different ways. Researching Speeches is an excellent collection of online research links compiled by Ron St. John at the University of Hawaii Maui Speech Department. Be sure to scroll down. It’s a rather lengthy list. Putting Theory Into Practice Look at the Evidence exercise (solution) link to see a research plan for an Informative Speech about cigarette smoking. Study Break: Laconic speech refers to a short, terse and concise communication. Learn about laconic speech’s originators and see some classic laconic speech examples on the Laconic Speech link. |
