Week 1 Activities (beginning 1/21/04; ending 1/28/04):

 

Homework Assignments:

1. Take the “Online Learning Tour” on the Using Your Speech Power! web site. To get to the “Online Learning Tour” left-click your mouse on the “Intro to Online Learning” link on the Using Your Speech Power! home page or in the list of links at the bottom of this page.

2. Print a copy of the SPE 101 NR Course Syllabus. The Course Syllabus link is among the links at the bottom of this page and on the Using Your Speech Power! home page. Read and highlight your printed syllabus.

3. Go to the Links to Additional Resources towards the bottom of this page and visit the ION and ALBION links.

4. Read and highlight the textbook Chapter 1 “Making Learning Easier by Improving Your Note-taking Skills” on pages 1-6.

5. Turn the textbook pages 3-6 into “T” notes.

Graded Homework Assignments
The following graded homework assignments must be submitted via email. The email address is srginley@yahoo.com. Submit only the number of the question and your answer in the body of your email message. ATTACHMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Due Sunday, January 25, 6:30 p.m.:

1. Go to the January 21 Class Announcement and complete the Web site Treasure Hunt you’ll find there. Email ONLY THE ANSWERS to the Web site Treasure Hunt to the instructor.

2. Go to the Discussion Forum (Morton College Web site-Online Courses login). The Discussion Forum link is on the “SPE 101NR Home Page”. Post your response to the Week #1 Discussion Forum Question. Responding to these questions:

1. Have you ever taken an online course before? If so, what was the course and what was your reaction to online learning?

2. Have you ever taken a Speech course before? If so, when and where did you take the Speech class(es)? What was your reaction to the Speech class(es)?

3. What concerns do you have about taking an online Speech course? Your concerns may reflect the course’s Internet, public speaking aspects or anything else that’s on your mind.

Please post your responses as new messages. This will give us more threads and make it easier to see who posted the original message.

Due Wednesday, January 28, 6:30 p.m.:

Email the answers to the Syllabus Review Questions to the instructor. The Syllabus Review Questions are located under the Links to Additional Resources towards the bottom of this page.

Due Wednesday, April 7, 6:30 p.m.:

Answer You Ought to Know By Now review questions #1-26 on pages 161-162. Do not email me your answers. I’ll check all Midterm Review Question answers during the Wednesday, April 7th class session. You may check your answers in the You Ought to Know By Now review section.
