Announcements - March 10, 2003:

Hello, Everyone:

Welcome to week #8!

You should have received your graded Persuasive Speech via U. S. Mail by now. If you haven’t received your speech please let me know. I thought the Persuasive Speeches went very well. Everyone seemed reasonably comfortable speaking in public. Generally, the outlines were good. Finally, let me thank everyone once again for arriving to class on time. Stragglers make it very difficult to set up the speaking schedule.

This week we’ll learn about introductions and conclusions and begin preparing for Test #1.

Introductions and conclusions are the final new issues we need to discuss for Test #1 and the Informative Speeches. In addition to learning what each introduction and conclusion device does, be sure you can differentiate between attention-getting introduction devices and audience preparation introduction devices. You can look at sample introductions and conclusions in the “Links to Additional Resources.”

Finally, your group has a chance to score big points by entering the Test #1 STC Competition. You may either make an appointment with your group to meet synchronously to discuss the STC Questions in your group’s chat room, or you may meet asynchronously in your group’s private discussion forum. STC Competition rules are on the Week #8 Weekly Activities Page.

As always, keep in touch. Let me know if you need anything. Remember, I’m never more than an email away!

Take care,
Steven
