Announcements - March 3, 2004:

Hello, Everyone:

Welcome to week #7!

The Persuasive Speeches are behind us! I’m hoping to be able to mail your graded Persuasive Speeches to you from Morton College on Friday morning, so be on the lookout for them.

There are three items of new business this week as we begin preparing for the Informative Speeches; audience analysis, evidence and visual aids.

When you read about evidence be sure to learn the strengths and cautions of each of the seven evidence types. There was no Persuasive Speech evidence requirement, but in the future you must support every main point with at least two different evidence types. This allows the strengths of one evidence type to compensate for the weaknesses another. Also, one of the two evidence types under every main point must have strong emotional appeal to keep the audience involved in the speech topic.

You’ll also be learning about visual aids and how to use them. Click on the “Visual Aid” link under Homework Assignments. The Informative Speech requires a visual aid.

Finally, we’ll use the Discussion Forum to begin selecting Informative Speech topics that benefit our audience.

As always, keep in touch. Let me know if you need anything. Remember, I’m never more than an email away.

Take care,
Steven
