Announcements - January 28, 2003:

Hello, Everyone.

As nearly as I can determine there are 24 students in the SPE 101 NR class. This includes some people who registered late for the class and didn’t attend the Wednesday, January 21st introductory session.

Please log onto the class on a daily basis. As of 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25th, 1/2 hour after the 6:30 p.m. homework deadline, eleven people had never logged on at all. I’d like have all 24 of you with me on May 18th so be sure you stay up-to-date. Never hesitate to email me if you have any questions.

This week we’ll begin learning how to write a speech. The Persuasive Speech assignment sheet, on page 145 in the workbook, describes the first graded speech we’ll be delivering. The Persuasive Speeches will be delivered in class on Wednesday, March 3rd.

We’ll also post messages in two different discussion forums.

First, we’ll post follow-up (reply) messages reacting to the messages posted in the “Week #1 Topic” discussion forum.

Second, we’ll give each other Persuasive Speech specific purpose and thesis statement feedback in our private group discussion forums. I’ve set up private discussion forums for each Speech class group. Only you and your fellow group members will be able to enter your group’s private discussion forum. Here are the 4 Internet Speech class groups and their members. I’ve divided the people who didn’t attend on Wednesday, January 21st among the 4 groups.

Be sure to check out the Links to Additional Resources. There are three links discussing time management and one link offering advice about choosing a speech topic. The Virginia Polytechnic Institute offers an interactive time management assessment.

And…..A Special Bonus!!

Sometime during the next two weeks I’ll send you an email. If you respond to my email within 24 hours (You should be checking your email at least once a day.) you’ll receive the easiest 5 points you’ve ever gotten in Speech class.

That’s all for now. As always, keep in touch. Let me know if you need anything. Remember, I’m always just an email away.

Take care,
Steven
